When people hear "grass-fed beef," they often picture open fields and happy cows. But at Bali Forages, that’s not just marketing it’s real life. We source our beef from smallholder family farmers right here in Bali. These aren’t massive feedlots or industrial operations. These are families who have been raising cattle the same way for generationson open pastures, with no grain, no hormones, and no antibiotics.
A Deep-Rooted Tradition
In Bali, the Bali Cow known as the Bali bantengis are more than just livestock. It’s a cultural and economic pillar. Cattle here serve as living savings accounts. A single cow might one day fund a child’s school fees or cover emergency costs. This deep relationship between humans, land, and animals has been nurtured over generations.
Bali’s volcanic soil is rich with nutrients, making its native grasses perfect for pasture. Our farmers don’t need feed additives or synthetic enhancers. The cows graze on wild forages, soak up the island sun, and move freely on open land. Healthy animals raised the right way create the nutrient-dense meat that forms the backbone of our products.
Over 90% of Indonesian farmers are smallholders. That’s not a statistic we take lightly. We’re proud to support local agriculture in a country where food traditions still matter.
Beyond the Farm: What Happens Next
Sourcing is just the beginning. Once the meat leaves the farm, it heads to our production facility in Bali. This isn’t just any kitchen we're certified by BPOM, NKV, and Halal authorities. These designations mean that every step of our process follows Indonesia’s most stringent food safety and animal health protocols.
What does that look like in practice? Cold chain management from farm to facility. Separate areas for raw and finished goods. Meticulous cleaning routines. Regular third-party lab testing.
And here’s something you might not expect: we’ve tossed entire batches of finished product perfectly sellable by commercial standards because they didn’t meet ours. When one of our third-party lab tests flagged a nutrient inconsistency, we didn’t hesitate. We scrapped the batch. No excuses. No shortcuts.
At Bali Forages, principles come before profit. Always.
Fun Fact: The Bali Cow Is Built Different
The Bali Cow is genetically unique. Unlike many industrial breeds, it hasn’t been modified for rapid fattening or unnatural growth rates. These animals are hardy, disease-resistant, and naturally lean. That means no need for antibiotics and it means you’re getting pure, unaltered protein, straight from a source that evolved with its environment.
